The Cardiology lab at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital is now in its 14th year of performing diagnostic and therapeutic vascular procedures. (“Vascular” refers to the blood vessels.) These procedures are typically performed by inserting a thin, flexible tube called a catheter into a specific blood vessel.
In addition to state-of-the-art equipment, the Cardiology department’s experienced vascular surgeon performs angiograms (a medical imaging technique in which an X-ray picture of blood vessels and heart chambers is taken) to identify vascular disease.
Vascular procedures performed include:
- Vascular angioplasty (using a catheter to widen a blood vessel that’s become narrowed or obstructed due to the buildup of cholesterol-laden plaques
- Stents
- Mediports
- Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter (PICC) lines
- Hickman catheters
- IVC filters
- Thrombectomies (excision of abnormal or dangerous blood clots)
- Cardiac pacemakers
- Angiograms
The goal of the Cardiology lab is to provide minimally invasive testing and treatments that will help patients get home and back to their lives as quickly as possible. We’re proud that procedures can be performed right here, by local doctors and staff. Unlike some labs in big-city hospitals, patients are not just a number at Nanticoke’s cardiology lab. Patients can count on getting personal, individualized care delivered by experienced, skilled clinicians.
