For the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders and any associated respiratory conditions, the Sleep Disorder Center at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital is at your service.
Our four-bed center features a first-rate staff, the latest technology and top-quality physicians who specialize in respiratory and neurological disorders. Under the direction of this medical staff, the center can treat all aspects of sleep disorders.
When a sleep disorder is suspected by a patient’s physician, a referral can be written for a sleep study. This study can diagnose the exact nature of the patient’s condition, with the results expertly interpreted by one of our doctors. The results and recommended treatment, if any, are then communicated in detail to the patient’s referring physician.
Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA)
OSA is a common condition that occurs when a patient’s upper airway becomes narrow as the muscles relax naturally during sleep. This reduces oxygen in the blood, interferes with sleep and can cause snoring. Treatment often includes C-PAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure). This treatment uses a machine to deliver a stream of compressed air through the nose and mouth that effectively splints the patient’s airway (keeping it open under air pressure), so that unobstructed breathing can take place. The patient can get more oxygen, sleep better and snore less.
Our medical staff is composed of a neurologist and two pulmonologists. Two of the physicians are board-certified specifically in sleep medicine by the American Board of Sleep Medicine, and the third is now completing certification.
