Better communication means better care – it’s common sense. In a healthcare setting, what exactly does that mean? After all, you talk to you doctor right? But does your doctor or your hospital have immediate access to the information he or she needs to provide the best care possible? Having the right information at the right time improves care, reduces errors, reduces duplication of care, and helps you get better, faster.

Nanticoke is proud to be named a Most Wired® healthcare provider for the third year in a row. As a Most Wired® healthcare provider, Nanticoke uses a number of technology tools to improve communication and coordinate patient care.

“In 2015, Nanticoke first received the Most Wired® designation. We were the first in Sussex and Kent counties to receive this designation. We are proud that we have been able to not only maintain this level of technology integration but continue to add to our capabilities including moving to one EMR for both our physician practices and the hospital,” said Steven Rose, RN, MN, President and CEO of Nanticoke Health Services. “Having received this recognition for the third year is just more evidence that Nanticoke continues to be a leader in patient care, quality and integration providing the very best services we can for our community. I could not be more proud of the team at Nanticoke.”

So what does it mean to be a Most Wired® healthcare provider? It means Nanticoke takes aggressive measures to provide and protect patient information and privacy. It also means Nanticoke is taking significant steps to transition to more integrated, value-based care delivery by using Information Technology tools to better facilitate the exchange of information across the players in healthcare delivery.

Both Nanticoke Memorial Hospital and the Nanticoke Physician Network have integrated Electronic Medical Records. This means your specialty care physician in the network has real-time access to information from your network primary care physician and vice versa. They both also have access to information from the hospital.

Nanticoke Memorial Hospital is among the top 20% in the nation for the integration of the Electronic Medical Record according to HIMSS (Health Information and Management Systems Society). This integration also includes things like patient portals and bar-coded medication delivery.

Nanticoke also participates in national and state programs to help make patient information portable and secure including Common Well Health Alliance, a national alliance committed to providing privacy and security for all data exchanges through its services; the Delaware Health Information Network (DHIN), which improves patient care and privacy, and improves practice efficiency; and local partnerships with other providers.

Better communication means better care – yet another reason to choose Nanticoke.
