NANTICOKE RECOGNIZED FOR COMMITMENT TO GIFT OF LIFE PROGRAM

On Friday, April 7, Lori Lee, BSN, RN, Vice President of Nursing at Nanticoke Health Services was among a group of clinicians from Delaware hospitals in attendance at the third annual Donate Life Flag Raising Ceremony. The ceremony was held at Kent General Hospital and honors organ and tissue donors during National Donate Life Month. In 2016, 54 generous organ donors in Delaware saved the lives of nearly 140 people, and 129 tissue donors saved or enhanced the lives of up to 7,500 more recipients.

Nanticoke Health Services was presented the “Perfect Process Award” for commitment to local donors and their families. This award recognizes Nanticoke’s flawless adherence to best practices supporting potential donors and their families since the Delaware Donation Performance Improvement Initiative (DDPII) began in January 2015. The mission of the DDPII is “to save lives and create life-sustaining legacies.” Each hospital in Delaware participates in the initiative and seeks to improve donation and transplantation rates by providing education and exceptional care to potential donors and their families.

Gift of Life - Multi-Hospital Group_WEB“I am proud of this award for Nanticoke – it shows that Nanticoke’s caregivers have been able to reach through their own grief and hurt in many tragic situations and help facilitate life changing good for others,” said Lori Lee. “At a time when the families are often overwhelmed, our healthcare team has consistently recognized the opportunity to enhance and change lives. It is our focus on the patient, their families, and our devotion to our communities that drives us. We are honored to be part of this organ donation initiative that has such a life-changing impact in our state.”

The Gift of Life Donor Program thanks Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, their dedicated staff, and their generous community for a strong commitment to organ donation, and for working to save lives by empowering and inspiring families who are faced with end-of-life decisions.

Organ and tissue donors save lives. According to Donate Life America, 95 percent of Americans support organ donation, but only 54 percent are actual registered donors. To register as an organ and tissue donor, visit www.donatelife-de.org.
