Nanticoke Health Services is pleased to announce that Jan Birch, RN, has been named Nurse of the Month for May 2019.

Jan began her career with Nanticoke Health Services in June 2009 when the Specialty-Surgical Unit (SSU) opened. She always comes to work with a smile on her face and is ready to work wherever she is needed. Jan is known for the care and compassion she shows to each patient and family member that she encounters. She also takes pride in coordinating the unit’s decorations to create a positive mindset for both the staff and the patients as they walk around the unit as part of their post-op plan.

Jan is a strong patient advocate and role model for others as she cares without judgment and makes everyone feel valued. She always goes above and beyond to make her patients feel better whether that means cleaning finger nails, giving back rubs, or even braiding a patient’s hair. She is frequently mentioned by patients and their families in thank you cards that SSU receives.

Jan is grateful to her parents for supporting her as a single mom going through nursing school by watching her daughter, packing her lunch and giving her notes of encouragement, Bible verses and updates on her little girl daily. She fiercely loves her family at home including her significant other, daughter, two sons, two “bonus children,” and the sparkle of her eye – her grandson that she spoils immensely. Besides time with friends and family, she enjoys the beach, boating, crafts, and visiting her hometown of Chincoteague, VA.

Nanticoke appreciates all of Jan’s hard work and dedication. Please join us in congratulating her as our May Nurse of the Month!
