Tributes for Healthcare Leadership

On Thursday, November 9, 2017, Nanticoke Health Services paid tribute to healthcare leaders in the Western Sussex County community. The Nanticoke Health Services Tributes for Healthcare Leadership awards individuals or organizations who have made significant contributions to the provision and improvement of healthcare in the communities of Western Sussex County.

The 13th annual Nanticoke Health Services Tributes for Healthcare Leadership dinner saluted this year’s honorees – Charles C. Allen Jr. Leadership in Philanthropy Award recipient, Trinity Foundation; Founders Award recipient, Nancy Cook Marsh; and Physician Hall of Fame inductee, Dr. James F. Palmer

The Charles C. Allen, Jr. Leadership in Philanthropy Award

The Charles C. Allen Philanthropy Award recognizes those who promote giving back to the community and in doing so, encourage others to do the same.  The Trinity Foundation and the Trinity Team members have energized others to support what they are passionate about while serving and giving back to our communities.  Nanticoke recognized and thanked them for their work by presenting the Charles C. Allen Philanthropy award to the Trinity Foundation.

Locally and across the country, Trinity Team members work all year, organizing activities and fundraisers, from the local golf tournaments to weekend yard sales, doing whatever it takes to support important community needs.  Many Seaford community organizations, including Nanticoke Health Services, are beneficiaries of the hard work and dedication of this very special group of people.   In total, this has amounted to more than $600,000 that they have put back into the community.

Nanticoke is very fortunate to have been both the beneficiary and partner of the Trinity Foundation.  They have supported our Cancer Care Center, Cardiac Catherization unit, ICU and other areas.  A few of their events also have provided an opportunity for Nanticoke staff to participate and show support – such as the annual 5k walk/run and the annual Big Pink Volleyball tournament.  In particular, the Pink Volleyball Tournament raises funds for cancer patients to purchase wigs, provide travel and help support any other needs they may have.

Founders Award

The Founders’ Award recognizes those individuals who have furthered the mission of Nanticoke Health Services and improves the health of our communities.  Through her hours of work, thoughtful advice and calming influence, Nancy Cook Marsh has done this for over thirty years.  It is, therefore, Nanticoke’s great honor to present Nancy with this year’s Nanticoke Founders’ Award.

Nancy is recognized for her dedication and commitment to Nanticoke Health Services as a member of the Nanticoke Health Foundation Board and formal member of the Parent Board of Nanticoke Health Services, Community Health Board, Co-chair of Nanticoke’s Dinner Auction and past Auxiliary President.  Nancy began volunteering at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in 1988 and, still a volunteer today with nearly 8,000 hours of service over the years.

Nancy’s involvement in the community has not been limited to Nanticoke. She is a member of Mt. Olivet Church in Seaford serving over the years as the President of the Women’s Association, co-chair of the kitchen, volunteering as a youth counselor, and singing in the choir.  She is a member of the AAUW (American Association of University Women) and the Seaford Historical Society.

Nanticoke Physicians Hall of Fame

The Physicians Hall of Fame recognizes and honors physicians who have served their communities with dedication and distinction.  Nanticoke was pleased to induct Dr. James F. Palmer for his service to the community as a member of the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital Medical Staff 1986.  Within that time, he has affected many lives and has become well known, well respected and trusted by all. Dr. Palmer is very caring, compassionate and dedicated, and always puts his patients first.
