Medical oncology is a branch of medicine that treats cancer, often with drugs by killing or slowing the growth of the cancer. Medical oncologists are doctors that help patients understand their diagnosis. They recommend treatment options and oversee the care of cancer patients. They work with other specialists to develop individual plans of care and can help manage pain and discomfort.
The Allen Cancer Center is staffed with board-certified oncologists, hematologists and internists who provide care for all types of cancer as well as hematological (blood) disorders. Medical oncology treatment options include chemotherapy, infusion services and transfusion services. Chemotherapy and infusion treatments are performed in the infusion area overlooking the serene Nanticoke River.
