Medical oncology is a branch of medicine that treats cancer, often with drugs by killing or slowing the growth of the cancer. Medical oncologists are doctors that help patients understand their diagnosis. They recommend treatment options and oversee the care of cancer patients. They work with other specialists to develop individual plans of care and can help manage pain and discomfort.
The Allen Cancer Center is staffed with board-certified oncologists, hematologists and internists who provide care for all types of cancer as well as hematological (blood) disorders. Medical oncology treatment options include chemotherapy, infusion services and transfusion services.
Chemotherapy and infusion is performed at the Allen Cancer Center overlooking the serene Nanticoke River. In January 2014, Nanticoke expanded the infusion area to meet a growing demand for cancer treatment in the area. This expansion was completed through a generous donation from the Seaford Ladies Golf Association.
